UNITED KINGDOM — The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) has officially launched its United Kingdom and Ireland Chapter, marking a significant occasion for members of the organisation living abroad.
The launch, held on 31 October 2026, brought together PLU members, chapter leaders and invited guests for an event that placed patriotism, discipline, national unity and Pan-Africanism at the centre of the proceedings.
Representing PLU Chairman Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba was Mr. Allan Kasujja, Central Committee Member and Executive Director of the Uganda Media Centre, who delivered the Chairman’s message to the gathering.
Kasujja emphasised the principles of patriotism, discipline and Pan-Africanism, outlining the values underpinning PLU’s activities both at home and among Ugandans living abroad.
The chapter was formally inaugurated by Counsel Ronnie Kananura, PLU Deputy Commissioner for External Affairs, in the presence of Hon. Nyombi Thembo, Executive Director of the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), and other invited guests.
The launch was organised under the leadership of Mr. Ismail Wandera, Chairman of the PLU UK Chapter, together with his organising committee, whose preparations brought members together for the occasion.
The gathering also featured an endorsement of Gen. Kainerugaba’s proposed 2031 presidential candidature, with participating members expressing their support for the PLU Chairman.
Beyond the formal proceedings, the occasion brought into focus the role of Ugandans abroad in the organisation’s activities. The Chairman’s message placed particular emphasis on maintaining a connection with Uganda through patriotism, shared national identity and responsible participation in public affairs.
For Wandera and the organising committee, the occasion represented the culmination of preparations to establish a formal PLU presence in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
What had previously been an organising effort among members became a formally launched chapter, with its leadership introduced, its activities inaugurated and the Chairman’s message delivered directly to those gathered.
