Gen. Kainerugaba Tours Key Infrastructure Developments in Kigali

Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba toured Kigali infrastructure projects, including hospital expansion, eco park redevelopment, and urban transformation initiatives.

KIGALI — Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Chief of Defence Forces and Senior Presidential Adviser for Special Operations, toured a number of major infrastructure and urban development projects in Kigali during his official visit to Rwanda, taking a close look at investments in healthcare, environmental conservation and modern residential development.

Among the major projects visited was the ongoing King Faisal Hospital Expansion Project, where the hospital’s capacity is being doubled from 200 to 400 beds. The expanded facility will include an Intensive Care Unit, VVIP wings and a helipad, significantly increasing the hospital’s capacity to provide specialised medical services.

The project is being undertaken by Shelter Group Africa, which has been involved in several major developments supporting Kigali’s continuing infrastructure expansion.

Gen. Kainerugaba also toured Nyandungu Eco Park, one of Kigali’s prominent green and recreational spaces. The development reflects the city’s approach of integrating environmental conservation and recreation within its broader urban transformation programme.

The tour continued to Parklane Estate in Gacuriro, a residential development also delivered by Shelter Group Africa. The project forms part of Kigali’s expanding modern housing and urban development landscape.

Throughout the tour, Gen. Kainerugaba was accompanied and guided by Kigali City Mayor Sam Dusengiyumva, who briefed him on the different developments and the wider efforts being undertaken to improve housing, infrastructure and the city’s urban environment.

The infrastructure tour was part of Gen. Kainerugaba’s wider engagements during his working visit to Rwanda. His programme in Kigali also included discussions with President Paul Kagame on Uganda–Rwanda relations and regional security, as well as talks with NBA Africa CEO Clare Akamanzi on expanding basketball development opportunities in Uganda.

The visit provided an opportunity to observe some of Rwanda’s ongoing development projects at close range, particularly the integration of healthcare investment, environmental planning, housing and urban infrastructure within Kigali’s continued transformation.
