Ankole MPs Endorse Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba for 2031 Presidency

The legislators were received at the PLU headquarters by the organisation’s National Vice Chairman and General Secretary, Hon. Fadil Twalla, as the movement continues to engage leaders and supporters from across the country.

The Patriotic League of Uganda’s campaign to rally support for Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba ahead of 2031 received a fresh boost on Monday as a delegation of Members of Parliament from the Ankole sub-region visited the PLU National Secretariat and formally endorsed him for the country’s top office.

The delegation comprised Hon. Amos Kankunda, Hon. Amanya Cohen Kyampene, Hon. Mwine Mpaka Rwamirama, Hon. Boaz Atwijukire and Hon. Zadock Mutekanga.

The legislators were received at the PLU headquarters by the organisation’s National Vice Chairman and General Secretary, Hon. Fadil Twalla, as the movement continues to engage leaders and supporters from across the country.

The MPs expressed their support for Gen. Kainerugaba as their preferred candidate for Uganda’s presidency in 2031 and beyond, adding their voices to a growing national endorsement campaign being spearheaded by PLU.

The delegation brings together legislators representing different parts of the wider Ankole region. Hon. Kankunda represents Rwampara County, Hon. Amanya represents Igara County West, while Hon. Mwine Mpaka Rwamirama represents Mbarara South Division. Hon. Atwijukire represents Katerera County, while Hon. Mutekanga represents Buhweju County.

Their endorsement comes as PLU expands its mobilisation for Gen. Kainerugaba’s 2031 presidential bid through both physical and digital platforms.

Earlier this month, PLU formally launched its national presidential endorsement campaign and online endorsement platform at its Secretariat, providing supporters with an avenue to publicly register their backing for Gen. Kainerugaba.

The campaign has since drawn support from a cross-section of political leaders, Members of Parliament, business personalities and other public figures, signalling growing activity around PLU’s post-2026 political mobilisation.

For PLU, Monday’s visit by the Ankole legislators represents another significant show of political support as the movement strengthens its structures and builds momentum around its 2031 agenda.
